Project: QUAS
Topic: Post-quantum computing
Proposal title: A Quantum-Shielded Framework for Authentication in Communication Protocols
Duration: 2025-2026
QUAS will set a pathway for the integration of post-quantum cryptography (PQC) into modern communication protocols to ensure the long-term confidentiality, integrity, and authentication of digital communications in the quantum era. The project introduces a unified framework to embed NIST-recommended PQC algorithms (HQC, Kyber, Dilithium) into real-world protocols such as QUIC (HTTP/3) and SIP (VoIP), addressing the growing urgency of preparing critical infrastructures for quantum-resilient security. By extending open-source stacks such as quiche, Kamailio, and Linphone, QUAS enables measurable benchmarking of PQC performance in diverse communication contexts. The project assesses key parameters—latency, handshake duration, CPU load, and overall efficiency—under hybrid and quantum-only configurations, producing vital data for cryptographic agility and standardization. Through practical validation in secure VoIP and web communication environments, QUAS provides actionable insights into PQC integration feasibility, resource optimization, and interoperability.
EDENTIFY role
-
Leads the implementation and validation of PQC-enabled communication modules, focusing on secure signaling, interoperability, and real-time performance. The team will adapt and extend SIP signaling and transport layers within Linphone to integrate hybrid and quantum-safe authentication flows, ensuring compatibility and efficiency across heterogeneous systems. EDENTIFY will also establish the benchmarking testbed to evaluate post-quantum handshake performance, CPU load, and latency under various network configurations.
-
In addition to technical contributions, EDENTIFY coordinates communication, dissemination, and community engagement for QUAS, ensuring that results—code, datasets, and documentation—are released as open-source assets. Through webinars, developer outreach, and collaboration with standardization bodies, EDENTIFY will promote awareness, reproducibility, and uptake of quantum-safe technologies across the European cybersecurity ecosystem.

Project: SUNDANSE
Topic: HORIZON-MISS-2023-OCEAN-01
Type of Action: Horizon-IA
Proposal title: innovative sediment management framework for a SUstainNable DANube black SEa system
Duration: 2024-2029
The Danube River has played a vital role in supporting both human and animal life for centuries. Since the late 19th century, human interventions have significantly altered the natural flow of the river to optimize its utility. These interventions have included actions such as straightening the riverbed, constructing hydropower plants, collecting freshwater, establishing nuclear power plants, engaging in agriculture, and facilitating navigation. The combined effects of climate change and extensive river regulation have led to a significant disruption in the natural balance of sediment in the Danube River, increasing flood risks, altering hydropower production, decreasing navigability of the river, and affecting in biodiversity within the Danube Basin. SUNDANSE will:
- perform innovative actions of measurements using cutting-edge portable on-vessel equipment prototypes for the direct analysis of microplastics and toxicity
- achieve an advance numerical prediction model of sediment transport process in the Danube River basin, to have a comprehensive overview of river dynamics
- develop an Innovative Sediment Management Framework for enhanced and sustainable sediment management within the Danube River basin
- carry out a conceptual Driver-Pressure-State-Impact-Response with multiple levels of analysis (catchment level, water body level, etc.) to understand and address environmental issues of the uniqueness of Danube river lighthouse
- realize maps for observation of critical points for excessive sedimentation and/or excessive erosion, sediment transport and flow restoration
- produce an Action plan and Roadmap for associated regions to upscale demonstrated sustainable and effective solutions for sediment management
- fulfil interconnections synergies with DanubeSediment and SIMONA projects and ICDPR initiatives
- improve the trans – national and cross – sectorial cooperation, contributing to a better governance in region

Project: ISMED-CLIM
Topic: HORIZON-MISS-2023-CLIMA-01-03
Type of Action: Horizon-IA
Proposal title: Innovative Solutions across the MEDiterranean for mitigation of Climate change-related heaLth rIsks
Duration: 2024-2028
ISMED-CLIM aims to engage and mobilise regional stakeholders across the Mediterranean, in implementing a wide array of adaptation solutions to mitigate the health effects of climate change, and provide evidence for their feasibility, user acceptance and efficacy. Specifically, ISMED-CLIM will (i) enhance the understanding of climate change effects on non-communicable diseases (NCDs) and vector-borne infections across representative European countries within the Mediterranean; (ii) quantify, for the first time, how public health interventions integrating state-of-the-art technologies, public and social media, with vulnerable citizens’ participation can reduce personal exposures to heat and air pollution and related health effects; (iii) validate the feasibility and user acceptance among high risk professionals of a regional early warning and risk prediction tool to mitigate the risk posed by exposure to sand flies and related diseases; (iv) employ open, participatory, and co-creative methodologies to locally adapt and refine existing evidence- based practices and prototype tools to increase the preparedness and ability of health systems in the Mediterranean to deliver safe, effective, and efficient care to citizens. We will test the proposed demonstration solutions initially in eight sites and coordinate ten replications in six sites in five European countries (Cyprus, Greece, Italy, Spain, Portugal), in alignment with Climate Change Adaptation Mission objectives. We will integrate the produced knowledge from epidemiology, forecasting, exposure and health data with insights from the demonstration and replication activities into a knowledge portal and policy decision-centric and action- oriented dashboard for policy makers, healthcare administrators, professionals and citizens. ISMED-CLIM’s approaches will be readily applicable in other European regions affected by the same or other climate change-related stressors, such as forest fire smoke, floods, ozone, and cold.
